Make Music Videos: How to make Your Music Video And Promote It To The Masses.

As a follow-up to my previous article about the oh-so wonderful www.MTV/Artists.com site, I want to make it clear to you that creating a music video today is easier than ever, and there’s no excuse not to have one. Video quality and the risk of being rejected by the plethora of promotion sites I’m going to share with you should not be a problem because, in today’s technological universe, even your average smart phone can make a high definition video. However, I am not suggesting that you make music videos this way, though I’m not suggesting that you shouldn’t make make music videos this way if you’re severely limited in budget. But let’s face it. There are plenty of other ways to go about this than using a smart phone, and I’m about to provide you with a FREE goldmine.

Let’s start with the basics, then I’ll share all my web resources below with you that you can take advantage of, regardless of your budget. Making a music video is hard work (and you should look at it that way). You should be pumped up, excited, and ready to give your very best performance on-camera. Why? Because music videos are FUN, profitable if promoted correctly, and make you feel like the true music professional that you are. If you use the resources I mention, you will go viral, and your performance will make itself happen over and over again without you having to be there. You can even sell songs and albums through exposure of your music videos on the very sites that help you promote them. Make music videos to showcase your well-deserved talent. Here’s how…

BUDGET: If you don’t have a budget to make a music video, hire a film student to do it for you. You’ll have the choice of a high-definition video, or you can even shoot on good ol’ celluloid in the same way that movies and many music videos are still made. Make some fliers and take them down to the bulletin board area of local college film and broadcasting departments, or even on the main bulletin boards in common areas of the school. Go to Craigslist.com and simplify your life by placing an add requesting a film student or film professional who needs to build a portfolio. Before I continue, let me state FIRMLY that I am a HUGE fan of music videos with quality story lines and not fluff. You stand twice as much a chance of getting a fan if they like the video and the storyline even if the song doesn’t instantly strike the viewer as one of their favorites. “LOOK THE PART AND ‘OWN’ IT.”

If you make music videos, it’s really tough (but hugely gratifying work). You’re a Star when you do this. But I want to caution you that, if you take all the time and planning to make your music video, you’re going to have to go on a promotion campaign that might seem like much harder work. Do NOT despair. I’m sharing ideas for those with no budget and those with moderate budgets. Please remember, you CANNOT make music videos and promote them to your complete satisfaction all by yourself. So, don’t be hard on yourself. The resources I share will help take a huge pile of bricks off your back.
IF YOU HAVE A BUDGET: Visit these 3 professional video promotion and distribution companies. They promote to MTV, BET, FUSE, oh so much more, not to mention other music video web sites, clubs, pools, you name it:

IF YOU DON’T HAVE MUCH OF A BUDGET: If you don’t have much of a budget (or any), don’t despair. You have PLENTY of options, and I will list them. You will build your own station on www.youtube.com, customize your page with artwork and other music tracks, and even take advantage of their new “paid listening” program through their advertising department. You should also visit: www.youtube.com/musicianswanted . www.Blanktv.com is a well-known youtube channel that will promote plenty of different styles of music. Additionally, get your music video on www.vimeo.com, a very hip film and music streaming service with tons of opportunies for networking. Type in “Music Blogs” into google, and find tons of music blogs that accept music videos. By the way, if you have to make music videos entirely on your own, you can always edit them in Windows Movie Maker. You can even add photography of your group, or videos from live shows. Make sure you completely fill and optimize your youtube station to look as professional as I think you are for reading this.
